While we’re all amused at the Cuphead fiasco with gaming websites, I’d like to note that the couple of years running up to Sonic Mania was almost as embarrassing with so-called ‘Professional YouTubers’.

There were quite a lot of people who were making Cuphead-like motions in the older Sonic games, while saying how terrible the Genesis games were.

Stuff like running facefirst into an enemy, and saying “Oh my god, why would there be an enemy there" as if the concept of an enemy in a video game was completely new to them, then running straight into the next enemy after that, and the next, and so on, all without ever jumping on them or avoiding them, and always acting shocked that walking into an enemy hurt them.

They’d repeat that until they either got a game over, or reached the end of a level through brute force by collecting a couple of rings afterwards each time.

That, and they’d do things like walk very slowly into a ramp going up a vertical wall, and when they didn’t have enough momentum to get up, they’d say “oh my god the physics in this are so awkward” and then constantly try to do bizarre things like jumping into the wall, or running a tiny amount up the wall and then jumping back to the left.

They’d almost never make it past the second zone before giving up and saying “so yea sonic sucks, like comment and subscribe, lets see if we can get 1000 likes, don’t forget to follow me on twitter and smash that bell icon to see all of my new videos when they come out”
