Don’t forget that the United States is largely responsible for the destabilization in El Salvador and the reasons why so many fled. The U.S. backed the Salvadoran military and it’s death squads that left tens of thousands of people dead. The U.S. is a big reason why so many fled here as refugees and made a life here in the first place. 

And don’t forget that the U.S. deported Salvadorans en masse in the 90s and the country had difficulty with the large numbers coming back. This allowed gangs like MS-13 to gain power INCREASING the number of civilians seeking asylum in the U.S. 

Despite the increasing violence, which Trump often references, the administration DID NOT take any of this into consideration when making the decision to end TPS for Salvadorans. An official for the administration told reporters that this decision only considered the country’s earthquake recovery and “anything else doesn’t really apply.” The official also offered NO ADVICE for those fearing the return to el salvador and what this means for their families, “ “We’re not getting involved in individual family decisions.” 

This is evil.
