This website breeds misinformation and misdirected outcry. Call Me By Your Name isn’t as problematic as everyone is making it seem. It’s a movie set in the 80s in a country in which a relationship between a 17 and 24 year old is legal and accepted. No one makes unwanted sexual advances, no one is being lured, no one is being predatorial. In fact, saying the movie perpetuates the idea that homosexual men are predators and pedophiles just gives people that haven’t seen it more of an idea that homosexuals are that! Also, just because it doesn’t fit into your ethnocentric view of what a consenting relationship is (in which there are places in the US where the age of consent is lower than other places), then you’re kind of being ignorant to other countries laws and culture. The main characters in Dirty Dancing had a similar age difference (the female 17, the male 25), and I haven’t heard one person say a word about that. Let’s not make a problem out of nothing now guys, and quit shaming people for enjoying/reading the film or the book.
