If Canada don’t GET THE FUCK …
lmao
There are now more than 90 people dead. You can bitch and whine that’s it’s hotter where you are, but you have to understand that it’s the elderly, homeless and small children who don’t have air conditioning and are susceptible to health problems. How fucking despicable can you be to just laugh at people dying because temperatures are hotter where you are. Our infrastructure was built to withstand -30 C°, not the heat. It’s not about how Canadians are “weak”, it’s literally just shitty circumstances.
We had to have this talk when London had that heat wave a few years back, and now we have to have it again:
PLACES THAT HAVE NOT HISTORICALLY HAD INTENSE HEAT ARE NOT BUILT TO HANDLE THE HEAT AN INTENSE HEAT WAVE CAN BRING.
I grew up in Arizona, right? In the summers, hitting 120+ degrees was noteworthy but not uncommon. Everything about the way our buildings and infrastructure was built was intended to handle that heat. I knew so many people in financial situations and crappy houses that in other parts of the world would have only a window AC unit or no AC at all, but in Arizona they had central AC. They may have limited their use of it to save money, but they HAD it.
When a heat wave is TWENTY DEGREES above the average for an area? It doesn’t matter that to me 93 in the summer is “cool” compared to the summers I grew up with. Their infrastructure isn’t built to handle it. Their houses are built to keep heat in and while that can also help keep heat OUT, that requires there to be cool air in there at ALL. Most of these buildings probably have no AC, or AC that is super overloaded by the current weather. People’s wardrobes aren’t optimized for this. People don’t know how much water they need to drink, how long they can stay in the sun. NOTHING about this city is built for this kind of weather.
So if we can please act like COMPASSIONATE PEOPLE and stop mocking people for suffering and dying thanks to this thing they have NO control over, that would be GREAT.
