Let’s also focus less on how Emma Watson’s taking parts in problematic films, which she seems to be doing largely because her managers tell her it’s the only way to make it past Harry Potter, and more on how James Franco, Seth Rogan, Jonah Hill Jay whatsisface, and Cahnning Tatum made uncomfortable sex jokes and rape jokes around her until she was so uncomfortable she left halfway through filming This is the End- but by contract had to still be in the movie.
Let’s talk about how Evangeline Lilly signed onto the Hobbit movies on the condition that her character not be in a love triangle, and everyone involved rewrote the character so that she was, and she couldn’t leave. Let’s talk about how actresses are signed into films whose final products are the opposite of what they want to be a part of, and still wind up on-screen playing terrible, problematic, sexist roles, or even being sexually harassed and assaulted while on set. Let’s talk about the implications of an industry where women have no control over the part they play or the story they’re used to tell, and are forced to make difficult decisions about which producers and directors will and won’t completely screw them over.
Read that again please.
ok i absolutely agree with the sentiment of this post, & i cant speak on the second half, but the first is so glaringly inaccurate. op clearly didn’t do any research before making the post, which is fine, except now it has 100k+ notes & all those ppl r getting misinfo.
miss watson wasn’t in this is the end for more than five minutes. she had a cameo where the main characters gave her refuge, and one of them told the others “she’s gonna be scared here with a bunch of men, we gotta convince her she’s safe & we won’t hurt her.” it evolved into a comedic gag where she misheard them. not good taste, sure, but nothing that she didn’t sign up for. it was scripted and went completely seamlessly, and she left, both in the film and as an actor in it.
she was supposed to have a second cameo later in the movie, but it involved cannibalism, which made her uncomfy, & she left quickly. they let her go no problem, and cut her part in that scene.
channing tatum’s cameo is literally in the last two minutes of the movie, whereas her scene is towards the middle. they don’t even interact. you just made 100k people dislike channing when he’s a lovely guy who had no part in that arguably distasteful scene.
don’t make posts if you’re not gonna be factual about it.
