modern setting, When one is bitten by a vampire they become a fledgling that is bound to the one that turned them but in order to become a full vampire and be free you have to drink the blood of your sire. If the fledgling loses their bond with their sire before becoming a full vampire after a certain amount of time will become a feral vampire. Luckily a fledgling can find a new sire and drink their blood in order to save them selfs.

Feral vampires are bitten ones who lost or where abandoned by their sire and have devolved into both bestial form and behavior.
