Not to be all anti-sequel or anything but if Spiderverse loses to Ralph and Incredibles 2 at the Annie Awards then we’ll know some Oscars-level nonesense is up
Anyway here’s to one of those Disney sequels winning the Oscar and leaving Peter Ramsey to watch his far superior film get snubbed like Rise of the Guardians all over again
Listen I know the movie isn’t out yet, but when Big Hero 6 can win over How to Train Your Dragon 2, The Tale of Princess Kaguya, and freaking Song of the Sea, then there is a power in the universe that is trying to spite us all and it’s got a grudge against That Artsy Shit
Into the spiderverse has some of the most stylised animation i’ve ever seen in a western, fully-CG movie and it deserves an award for just attempting to show the world that CG animation has so much damn potential. You can literally do anything? make anything? With such a versatile media it should have infinite styles and textures to make your anything. And yet, we get movie after movie of the pixar ‘semi-realistic but like, their eyes are big’ style
The problem is that animation is seen a children’s media, meaning it gets a lot less respect than other categories. I don’t know if it’s different with the Annies, but at the Oscars, the people deciding what movie wins don’t actually need to have watched all (or any) of the nominees.
Because of all this, the winning movie is usually whatever movie is more appealing to children, as this will be the movie that the people deciding saw with their kids
