and this wasn’t publicized. to the degree that i, a human who tries to stay abreast of at least local news, knew nothing about it until my father mentioned it over dinner today.
so like. it would be cool if we spread that information around too maybe.
Not just making it illegal, but making being gay punishable with death.
This is one of the many reasons why I walk by every single red bucket in the run-up to Christmas. They’re not getting my money, I don’t care how nice the people ringing bells are.
Ever since the time they threatened to close all their soup kitchens in NYC if a law that did something as simple as allow companies to extend spousal benefits to their employee’s same-sex domestic partners I have refused to buy from them or donate to them.
It’s that time of year again! In case people don’t know… the Salvation Army is shitty peoples.
Also, the married women are not paid (and therefore can’t qualify for assistance if they should ever divorce, etc). And worth “of course” less than a man.
“
In the Army’s case, the agreement for compensation is that the officer allowance be paid jointly to the husband—the check is written in his name. Officially, the wife is a “worker without expectation of remuneration,” and her husband receives 40 percent more of an allowance as a married man than he would as a single man.
Don’t abuse the bell ringers unless they get aggressive, but don’t give them a bent penny.
me: i’m gonna check wikipedia to see what they’ve done, see some sources, etc
wikipedia:
In November 2013 it was made known that the Salvation Army was referring LGBT individuals to one of several conversion therapy groups.[162] As a response the Salvation Army removed such referrals from their website.[163]
apparently stan lee finally died of shitty old bitch disease and i better not see anyone acting like he was anything more than a sack of shit who sexually harassed multiple women and injected racism into marvel comics for decades
just cuz he died doesnt make him suddenly deserving of respect
Hey I cant defend the second bit but the bit about sexual harassment were proven false and in fact they were investigated for allegations of elder abuse against stan lee
You don’t have to defend the second bit. Stan Lee said he’d be fine if Spider Man was originally Black, Hispanic, Indian, or anything. He just didn’t want an already established character to change their identity. He said if you want a character that’s different, just make a different character, which is exactly what happened.
Tumblr is just being Tumblr again.
To Paraphrase, Stan Lee DIDN’T harass anyone, and had an understandable reasoning behind his thinking, and it also left room for the Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen storylines, which is awesome
Peter Parker never had to be the only Spider.
And elder abuse is just ugly.
I honestly feel sick seeing people come out of the woodworks to shit on an icon of popular culture like this on the day he died.
Gods fuck you, OP. If you want to criticize him at least go for shit that isn’t violently untrue bullshit.
Imagine being this much of a piece of shit OP that you’re taking debunked rumours and false accusations as truths and trying to shit on an old dude who died today, because you’re a big fucking coward.
teaching children that they are allowed to walk away and cool off if they are feeling overwhelmed might literally save their life as teens/adults
I am a preschool teacher.
This is my “alone zone.”
At any time of the day, if my kids are feeling stressed, they can go here to cool down. There’s stress toys, silly putty, bubbles, sensory bottles…there’s books and headphones to block out the loud noises.
The only thing they have to do is “check in” by putting their picture on which emotion they’re feeling so I know how I can help them when they’re ready.
Kids. Need. Space.
Kids. Need. Coping. Mechanisms.
Not. Time-outs.
And the sooner we as adults teach them that, the better off they’ll be as they grow.
New rule, non muslims can’t say the word jihad. Until you stop conflating a word that means personal struggle with faith and temptation with terrorism youre just not allowed to say it.
I’m not a Muslim but I just thought I would reblog this because I think it’s definitely worth listening to.
It’s totally okay for non muslims to reblog this, and i encourage it. Im just glad you’re listening.
Oh god, finally someone said it. Every time I see words like “jihadist” I want to scream, but I’m not Muslim, so I wasn’t sure I should say anything.
Jihad means struggle. It doesn’t mean holy war or anything like it. In fact, there is no word in Islam for holy war, because the nature of Islam does not leave room for holy war. Islam has a juridical system, not a Pope who can just say “Go wage holy war.” Conflating the personal nature of jihad with violence is so very gross and it needs to stop. Period.
Actually, there’s another word non-muslims in the media shouldn’t use:
Allahu Akbar. It’s not a statement of terrorism. It means “god is great”. It’s something we say to praise our lord. It’s what we say when we pray. It’s not a statement of terrorism. Allahu Akbar doesn’t mean terrorism stop using it as one
I would really appreciate it if non Muslims understood this
nerds are like “ugh mr mime is so creepy in the detective pikachu trailer” like they expected a cute mr mime??? mr mime. mr mime???? live action mr mime being a terrifying imp is the most accurate pokemon in the trailer why are y’all shocked.
saw a comment someone made on a post saying “it’s not possible to read dark fiction and not have that affect your morals, you can’t train your brain NOT to normalize those things!” and i completely agree
as a life-long crime fiction and horror fan, i am an immoral monster. i’ve watched all 456 episodes of law and order and committed a murder after each one. i ate my neighbors after watching hannibal. i started a meth lab after breaking bad. i ruined my high school prom because i watched carrie the night before. in middle school i read stephen king’s it, went down to the sewers with some friends and
