adults, while forcing all children above the age of 5 to sit still, be silent, and obey orders for 7-8 hours a day with minimal breaks, reducing their exposure to fresh air and sunlight to almost nothing, forcing them to alter their natural sleeping patterns to increase productivity, and repeatedly telling them their self worth depends on their being able to follow these instructions perfectly for 13 or more years: kids these days are so lazy! they never go outside! they never want to do anything! clearly it’s not because of us!
The way we treat children is extremely inhumane, but so many adults want to dismiss it because it’s so normalized
You… You do realize that’s what it’s like to be a working adult…? And our days are even longer.
thats because an 8 hour work day is extortion and should be illegal. next question.
Either you’ve never had a job or you’re just lazy af. There’s nothing wrong with 9 to 5 jobs. Nobody is forcing people to work them and people need the hours to make more money. People get breaks too.
Please take a biology class & get some help. People shouldnt have to do work 80% of the day to survive.
2. capitalism is forcing people to work. i could just quit my job and hang out at home – but then i would lose my house and most likely starve to death, because of the way our economy works.
3. breaks for most establishments are a mere 30 minutes for an 8-hour shift; at my first job, for a 6-hour shift, your break would only be 15 minutes and any longer shift would only get 30. studies say people are more productive if for every hour you work, you get a 15-minute break – meaning, for an 8-hour shift, you’d need an hour-long break, and so on and so forth.
the way modern society views work is unhealthy for loads of reasons, not just what i mentioned here. the fact that we’re preparing children for such a torturous lifestyle is horrific.
Also like…. small children are not adults. Small children should not be held to the same standards as adults. Even if the 8 hour work day WAS healthy, it would be inhumane to hold a small child to the same standard.
The school system was literally designed to train people for factory work back when child labour was legal so that should tell you how fucked that is
Putting aside the fact that only caring about raising ‘workers’ is abhorrent, decades of research shows that children best learn through play anyway. Not sitting still and being spoken at / filling out cookie-cutter worksheets.
Early child education, at the -very least- up until age 8, should be play-based education. Early childhood teachers are taught this. But then we go into schools who refuse to change their systems and structures and it’s very very difficult to put into practice, particularly with 35 kids in each class, limited assistance, limited resources and zero support from administration & parents.
Every single school I went into? The kids wrote letters of thanks for teaching them science. Always science. Because of all the lessons I made sure, no matter how hard and messy it was, to make those lessons inexplicably practical, hands-on, and play based. And they loved it. And learnt so much better. And teachers won’t do it because it’s too hard to do practical stuff with so many kids, they worry they’ll lose control, that mess will happen, that precious resources will be wasted or damaged.
The system needs to change. Just look at other schooling types – Montessori and Regio Emelia models work incredibly well.
please spread the word, and get in contactvia this websiteit is so easy to send a pre-worded email over and get things rolling. help us out!! we made it through the july vote, but it’s come back round super fast.
AO3 just posted an update on how it could be affected after the recent vote. basically it is definitely bad for the environment of creativity, but it’s not the end right now – and it’s important as much as we can now we channel concerns intoaction because in the run up to the final vote and we can influence the outcome for the future of creative works and for our fandom experiences!!!
the post AO3 made is a really good outline for people to read and catch up on what’s going on, and see how they can help.
iM LAUGHING SO FUCKING HARD WE GOT CALLED TO PICK UP OUR CAT FROM THE GROOMERS BUT THEY REFUNDED OUR MONEY AND SAID HE GOT TOO AGGRESSIVE BEFORE THEY COULD FINISH SO NOW HE LOOKS LIKE THIS
Posted: 4 years ago on June 23, 2014 at 13:03
1. this fat short-haired tabbys name is Tiger and yes i still have him and no he was not fuckin traumatized by the groomers he just threw a fit and the person working on him panicked and sent him back to us & helped us reschedule w/ a more experienced groomer who ended up doing a fine job
2. the initial reason for the shaving was in fact matted fur, not just at random for the fun or ‘aesthetic’ of it. he’s a fat boy who cannot reach the base of his tail and the fur there had gotten so nasty that i personally couldnt brush it out without worrying i would hurt him, so we took him to a professional
3. they shaved him like a lion, and he LOVED it. i had never seen him so affectionate and happy as the summer that this happened, but eventually his fur grew back perfectly fine and now im more careful about brushing him regularly to prevent the matting from happening again. and it hasnt so far.
now can you guys chill? he’s fine. just fat & hairy.
here’s a picture i took of him yesterday. bright eyed n healthy. 🐱
halloween is fast approaching, and sending screamers has become an increasingly popular trend over the past few years. while some people may enjoy them, they can also trigger anxiety attacks in others.
check the section/category of a video. if it’s under “comedy”, “prank”, “horror”, or something similar, close the tab immediately.
comments are also a giveaway. scroll to the comments section before playing a video. if comments are disabled, there’s a likely chance the video is a screamer. close the tab right away. if you see comments like “whoa, that made me jump!”, close the window! and if it’s impossible to disable comments, look for multiple comments deleted by the creator.
check out the video itself, while it’s paused. if it has very low music (this makes the audience want to turn the volume up, so the scream is louder and scarier), or if it has very small text (which makes you want to go into full screen), that’s a good indication that it’s a screamer. exit out and close the tab!
look at the content of the video. if the clip itself deals with the scary or supernatural, like a film about ghosts, you can’t be certain. be careful, and exit the tab if the content seems triggering. pause the video and forward all the way to the end. If everything is good feel free to watch. if a frame with a scary picture comes up, close the tab immediately.
if the video shows a room or picture, and invites you to “find what’s wrong in the picture”, or “find _____”, close the window immediately!
there’s a new trend going on where videos describing people reacting to screamers are actually screamers themselves. if you suspect this, scroll down and see the comments. if the maker of the video disabled comments to purposely lead viewers to believe the video is genuine, scroll down just enough to see the video time, so you don’t see the video itself. Turn the volume down, just in case it is a screamer, and if the video plays out and there’s no scream, it’s safe to watch.
check the time on the video. if it’s suspiciously short, exit the tab.
look at the related or recommended videos. if any of them fit the above, the video is a screamer.
stay safe this halloween season!
also there’s another one that you forgot which i usually look for first when it comes to wondering if a video is a screamer or not, and that is checking the likes to dislikes ratio. if the dislikes are an abundant amount, close the tab. this is a fairly common one that i usually remember.
reblogging as a way to help you guys find screamer-free videos! we won’t be posting any screamers here this halloween 💜 – mod robot
Stay safe!! I personally love jump scares, but once when I was eight, I showed “The Scary Maze Game” to my friend, who literally had a panic attack, and I am scarred for life with the guilt from that episode. It seems like it’s a in good fun, but it really hurts some people, so please be careful!
these always give me panic attacks thank you !!
PSA, ‘cause people can be pricks.
You all need to know this; and if you’re an asshole who purposely does stuff to make people have a panic attack; you can get the fuck off of this blog.
Thank you for these! Halloween time is my favorite time of year, but screamers give me horrible panic attacks
Another tip— if you’re really interested in the content of the video, you can always ask someone you trust, and isn’t bothered by screamers, to watch it first!
she is so adorable and has such great expressions I sometimes forget she is a pin up girl
She is sexy as fuck.
THIS BODY IS SEXY AS FUCK.
Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
*softly with feeling* she’s beautiful
This has to be Depression era WW2. She’s wearing bikinis made from flour sacks, which people made clothes from because they were shit poor and companies decided to put floral prints and colors on their bags to make those improvised clothes.
You also have to appreciate that she’s a hard worker, growing her own food, fixing her own plumbing and still retaining her femininity. That’s definitely a sign of the times.
There’s another post about Hilda I can’t find right now, but yeah, it’s spot on, she was popular during the war and was created to be more a “girl next door” type.
@blackteaandbones FOUND IT. This is the series we were goin’ on about on the way to Kingston.
what I love best about Hilda is that you can learn this about her personality just from a handful of moments with her and you can’t help but love her. She’s kind and indulgent and sweet and has a good sense of humor
getting mad that poorer children come to your wealthy neighborhood on halloween to get nicer candy and trick or treat safely has got to be like in the top 10 rich people arent human funny moments
Let’s be blunt here: rich people get mad that BLACK children come to their neighborhoods to trick or treat safely and get nicer candy. It’s an affront to their white sensibilities that these little black kids want to spend one night having harmless fun in their neighborhood. They want black kids to stay in their own neighborhoods, away from their lily white rich people neighborhoods, and legit get deeply offended they must hand a black child a candy bar.
