The Problems With Miraculous Ladybug

Call me an “anti-fan” or whatever all you want, but if being an anti means calling out inconsistencies, oocs, and bad things the show could teach kids, then hell yes, I’m an anti. I’m simply doing this so people don’t make it seem like a perfect show when it really isn’t, just like any other show. I just got fed up with all of these problems after seeing that clip of Chameleon.

Also, spoilers ahead!

First Problem: Inconsistencies

Now, I’m not going to point out every. single. inconsistency throughout the first 2 seasons of the show because most of us have either noticed them ourselves or read about them. The one inconsistency I’m going to talk about specifically has to do with Alya and her assumptions that Marinette is jealous in Catalyst.

In Frozer (an episode that comes before Catalyst), Marinette tells Alya and the rest of the girls that she is going to help Adrien with his date with Kagami because she wants him to be happy. She might have been a little jealous of Kagami, but she wasn’t making some kind of plan to sabotage Kagami’s chances with Adrien. In fact, it was the rest of the girls who wanted to make some kind of plan like that.

In Catalyst, Lila is talking lying to the rest of the class about her “travels”. Marinette tries to point out Lila’s lies but isn’t successful since Lila is apparently very good at lying with facts to back up her lies. Anyway, the problem is that Alya accuses Marinette of being jealous because Lila tried to get with Adrien that one time. We just talked about this, but Alya was there when Marinette was telling the girls about her plans to help Adrien with Kagami, so why would Alya think Marinette would be so jealous of Lila that she tries to sabotage her reputation in front of the class? Alya should know better, especially since she’s Marinette’s best friend.

Second Problem: OOCs

Now, I’ll admit, I don’t know everything about every single character in the show, but what was up with Alya not standing up for Marinette in the Chameleon clip? I don’t mean saying things like, “Lila is lying about her hearing problems!” I mean just offering to sit with Marinette in the back of the class. Instead, it was Adrien offering to completely switch seats with Mari so she could sit near Alya (and probably get away from Lila).

“Alya didn’t offer to sit with Marinette because she was sitting next to Nino,” I hear some fellow salty fan saying.

Then that just breaks the girl code, sisters before misters, and Alya doesn’t seem like the kind of best friend to do that. Idk. Maybe later in the episode, she’ll offer to sit next to Marinette. I can’t be sure until then. I’ll honestly be disappointed if Adrien is the one who sits next to her instead though. I mean, “YAY, SHIP,” but Marinette and Alya are best friends, so why wouldn’t they sit together?

“To move the romance plot along,” I hear some fellow fan saying. Yeah. Most likely, but they don’t need to sit right next to each other for that.

Third Problem: Bad things the show could teach kids

I know this one sounds ridiculous, but hear me out.

The bad thing I’m talking about is teaching kids they can lie to get their way with no consequences. I’m not just talking about Lila in the Chameleon clip. I’m talking about Lila in general. Throughout the first two seasons, she never paid the consequences for lying so much.

“But Ladybug exposed her in front of Adrien!”

Yeah, but Lila was lying to ALL of Ladybug’s fans! In the interview Alya did with her, Lila claimed her and Ladybug were best friends. When she was akumatized into Volpina, she was still lying! To all of Paris! Acting the role of a hero!

Did she pay for those? Nooo.

In Catalyst, Lila continued with her lies and made up stuff about her fake travels. She was even lying to her own mother about it not being safe to go to school and said she was only talking to Adrien, “her boyfriend”, and this has probably been going on for a while.

Was she exposed then? Did her mom find out about her lies? No.

Now, in the clip from Chameleon, she lied about having hearing problems (tinnitus to be exact) and got a seat in the front of the class just so she could sit next to Adrien. This is absolute bullcrap. Idk if it’s different in France, but when I was getting my glasses made, I had to prove my eyesight wasn’t the best with a doctor’s note before being allowed to change seats. Shouldn’t she have had to have a doctor’s note as well?

Anyway, yes, it is true that people lie like this all the time, but the show is making it look like there are no consequences. I’ve seen people lie about anxiety issues, depression, sight problems, hearing problems, even asthma or diabetes, but they are mostly called out for their lies. Lila, on the other hand, keeps getting away with her lies and I’m concerned she might still get away with this one. Now, she’s using an actual disability to get her way. This could make kids think, “Oh, so if I just lie to get my way, then everything will be okay!” I’m sorry, but if she’s not exposed by the end of Chameleon for at least the tinnitus lie, I’m going to be very disappointed.

“Shouldn’t children already know it’s wrong to lie about that stuff? And why would they take advice from Lila, pretty much the 2nd villain of the show?”

BECAUSE SHE ISN’T BEING CALLED OUT ON IT IN THE SHOW! And every time Marinette tries, it’s written off as jealousy and Marinette is made to look like the villain! Even some fans on this site used to accuse Marinette of doing that because of jealousy!

The Fourth Problem: The protagonist is forced to apologize for EVERYTHING!

Chat throws a hissy fit because Ladybug rejected him?

Ladybug: *Apologizes*

Chat: *Doesn’t apologize for being so immature*

Chloe causes most akumas in the show while Marinette causes some as well?

Marinette/Ladybug: *Apologizes for all the akumas she causes had the slightest part in causing*

Chloe: *Only apologizes for a few*

Marinette and the class are happy that their bully is finally leaving Paris and Adrien is upset about it?

Marinette: *Apologizes*

Adrien: *Doesn’t apologize for not fully understanding that those students were bullied by her while he was not*

Ladybug called Lila out for her lies in Volpina?

Ladybug: *Apologizes to Lila*

Lila: *Stays mad and continues lying about everything*

And those are just the few examples I can think of right off the top of my head. It’s okay for Marinette to apologize for her mistakes, but the other characters need to apologize for their mistakes too.

Anyway, that was the last problem I could think of and this post is already long enough, so I’m done ranting about this issue. I still love the concept of the show and most of the characters, but sometimes the writing pisses me off. So… I’m gonna go now. Bye!

so you’re okay with chloe getting a redemption arc but not lila? okay *eye roll*

asexualtuckerfoley:

A, I never said I was opposed to Lila getting a redemption arc, just that it would be a hard sell for me.

B, I really don’t have to give you my reasons, but maybe it’ll teach you that people have reasons for posting the things they post and you’ll think before being a cowardly jerk on anon

C, The reason I’m comfortable with Chloe being a hero and not Lila is because I didn’t really have to deal with a Chloe as much as a kid, and she’s not as dangerous as Lila. Everyone knows Chloe’s blowing it out her ass when she does, and time after time, the only person she isolates is herself in the end.

Lila, though? I had Lilas in school. People who lied to teachers, to our peers, to anyone and everyone to make themselves look better, often at my expense. People who did everything in their power to make me feel small and isolate me from anyone who might want to be my friend, all because I… what? Presented a challenge to their popularity? Was smarter than them? Just seemed like an easy target? I honestly don’t know. And I don’t particularly care about them or their reasons anymore. But when I see a character going through what I went through? Sitting alone and having their voice ignored because people believe someone else’s lies? It makes me angry.

It reminds me that I am in therapy and my psychiatrist diagnosed me with CPTSD and deemed what I went through to be, not bullying, but full-blown child abuse to the point that CPS should’ve been called on my teachers, because of people like Lila. That people like her pushed me so low that even as a seven-year-old, I contemplated suicide. That I thought I couldn’t go to anyone- even my own parents- because people like Lila were so good at lying that I thought my word would never stand up to theirs, even if they started saying the sky was green and the grass was blue.

Chloe? She pissed people off, but in the end, she just turned everyone against her and into the support of their peers. Lila? She does the opposite; she divides people and pits the crowd against anyone in her way, and she’s good at it.

So no, I don’t like Lila, and if they try to redeem her, they’re gonna have to do a lot more for her than they did for Chloe, because she does a lot more harm than Chloe.

And D, if you don’t like what I have to say, the unfollow and/or block buttons exist for a reason.

maximilian-alexander:

I’m getting really pissed off at the amount of people saying Lila is a pathological liar. No, she’s not. She’s a liar and she’s manipulative, but she’s not a PATHOLOGICAL LIAR. She deliberately lies with purpose. She lies because she WANTS TO, not because of impulse or pressure. She lies with the intent to get something out of it. She’s not a pathological liar. Stop it.

my-guilty-pleasure-blog-oops:

I really hate Lila and feel overly sympathetic towards Marinette in the trailer. I see a ton of people complaining that they wanted Lila to get a redemption and honestly? I don’t. I feel sick even looking at her. Everything about her, the way she talks, cries to gain pity… I hate her because I know her.

Not like “I’ve seen enough of Lila that I know everything going on with her” but I knew a pathological liar that was almost identical to her. And guess what? I was Marinette in this situation. I could tell she was a liar. If I ever called her out on it, everyone would turn on me and glare. People in the class liked me, I got along with the other students, but she was out to get me. She didn’t try to “steal my crush” or anything, but my friends? You bet.

It was the strangest thing because everyone trusted her. I heard her so many times talking poorly about everyone behind their backs. Nobody believed me when I said she was lying, even after she was CAUGHT MULTIPLE TIMES. So I saw that and it just really reminded me of her, and honestly? I’m glad it does. It sucks, but she’s real. She is a real character, people exactly like her exist. They have the art of lying down and everyone wrapped around their fingers.

lunian:

That moment when you wanted to try to draw akumatized!Marinette so much because of your salty ass..or something like that (not 100% concept from this ask, but i just got some ideas after it)

Im still bad with names but I was thinking about La Justice (because in english it also can mean “judge”..?)

Her power (in her ribbons) is not just to make people tell the truth, but to make them to reveal their misdeeds to everyone, so feeling bad and suffering from it.

how chat noir gonna throw a hissy fit about ladybug having a crush on another boy and consider that a justifiable excuse to run off in the middle of an akuma attack and ladybug still says sorry when it aint her fault

but mari spits real truth bars about lila being a snake in front of everyone who deserves to hear it after being praised for being so honest and kindhearted in the previous episode and everyones like ¯_(ツ)_/¯
