Things that have been stated in Miraculous Ladybug:
Andre Bourgeois has the funds, technology, and clearance to launch Paris’ trash into space, thought that was a good idea, and somehow hasn’t been assassinated by NASA, the ESA, and the ISRO for creating this Kessler-Syndrome-waiting-to-happen.
Plagg is the reason dinosaurs went extinct, meaning not only are the Miraculous at least sixty-five million years old, not only is he personally at least sixty-five million years old, but someone was using Miraculouses during the time of the dinosaurs! (Does this show share a universe with Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger?)
Things the show runners have said about Miraculous Ladybug:
Ladybug and Chat Noir have patrols, in spite of the fact that all akumatized villains will find a way to make themselves known.
There is no glamor protecting their identities, in spite of that being literally the only possible reason no one’s figured it out yet.
Conclusion:
Thomas Astruc can’t tell me what is and isn’t canon.
Actually, the miraculous aren’t that old.
According to the history of Miraculous Ladybug, every time an abstract concept is born into the world, a kwami is born (which is why Tikki and Plagg are the strongest kwami; they are the oldest). The kwamis traversed the galaxy and eventually found earth, but they were invisible to all creatures there.
It wasn’t until the miraculous were made, and each one tied to a kwami, that they could be seen and touched.
So it is entirely possible for Plagg to have been on earth during the dinosaurs, probably freaked out at the sight, and made a cataclysm that destroyed them.
Judging from some of the things Gabriel has said, we know he promised that he would bring Emilie back, but the way he says some of these things, it sounds like Emilie was the one who made him promise that.
This is only speculation, but it seems plausible that Emilie owned the butterfly and peacock miraculous, as well as the book. Something happened to her that made her make Gabriel promise to use the ladybug and black cat miraculous to bring her back.
Since Gabriel can’t read the book about the miraculous (hence why he doesn’t know the recipe for the transformation potions), but knows about the equal exchange rule, according to Thomas Astruc, someone must have told. It could have been Nooroo, in an attempt to discourage Gabriel from trying to get steal the miraculous, or Emilie could have told him.
On a personal level, I think it’d be way more interesting if Emilie was evil, or at least morally grey, as the dead, perfect family member is very overused, and has a tendency to distill the character into a stereotype, who’s only motivation is being good and only role is their relationship to the people that love them. Making Emilie a bad guy could potentially be a really interesting spin on the trope.
Mayura has to be an akuma because her skin is bluish, and miraculouses don’t change skin colour
But! Then this means that Mayura comes after the scarlet thing is over!
At this point it’s either Emilie, Kagami or Marinette I think
otjize
Actually, Miraculous can change skin color, if it holds a meaning to the transformed person, just like everything else in the transformation.
This is Mudekudeku. She’s a previous Ladybug, and when she transformed, her skin turned red with black spots. This is because she is an OmuHimba, and the Himba people use otjize
paste; a red paste used to clean the skin, as well as protect against the sun and mosquitos.
The Himba people are famous for the otjize
paste, so Mudekudeku’s transformation includes a version of that, since it’s a part of her heritage.
Judging from Mayura’s name and blue skin, I’ll bet her wielder is of Indian descent, or has a connection to Indian culture, as the name Mayura means peacock in several Indian languages, and Hindu gods often have abnormal skintones, including blue. Peacocks are even associated with a good handful of Hindu gods
Here me out. Because of the “Queen Wasp”, we know that a Miraculous can hold Akumas. right?
Here’s the idea I have floating in my head. What if the Peacock Miraculous had something similar happen to it? If not akumatized, then maybe corrupted by some sort of evil force?
This could explain why Mayura, whoever she is, is evil, and actually makes Hawkmoth look like a child by comparison. I’m not entirely sure, but it’s as good a theory as I got.
Maybe instead of the person, it’s the kwami that’s corrupted? And I think I have an idea of how it would happen!
So, we know that the episodes, except for part 1 of Origins, is named after the akumatized villain. And part 2 of the Heroes’ Day episode is named after Mayura. What if Mayura is the akumatized villain of part 2, but Hawk Moth chooses to akumatize the peacock kwami instead of the miraculous holder?
And what if akumatization has a different effect on kwamis than humans? Meaning that when whoever Mayura really is transforms, it’s actually the corrupted Duusu who takes control, or the holder becomes temporarily corrupted themselves (only as long as they are transformed)
Or maybe the source of the corruption has something to do with what Nooroo said about how bad things happen when you use miraculous for evil. Maybe a previous holder of the peacock miraculous was evil, and it corrupted Duusu! It doesn’t even have to be Adrien’s mom; maybe using the already corrupted miraculous is the cause of her illness/death
And if that is the case, maybe we’ll start seeing, in Season 3, Nooroo slowly get corrupted as well
I really loved Kagami in Riposte, and I was cool with her and Adrien maybe getting together, but I don’t know after watching Frozer, because I really don’t like how Kagami acted.
At first I didn’t like her behaviour after they came to the skating rink; before it was okay and her telling Adrien to switch target (implying he should focus on her) was fine, especially if she thought Adrien was wasting time on someone who didn’t love him.
Then, when the ending came, I interpreted Kagami’s words to mean that she wanted Adrien to focus on Marinette, which would mean her behaviour was because she was trying to get Adrien and Marinette together.
However, I read a tweet from one of the people working on the show that Kagami did mean that Adrien should change target to Kagami, and that she thought Adrien was in love with Marinette and that Marinette wasn’t worthy of Adrien.
This, to me, paints Kagami as a really unlikeable character, especially seeing as she had a tendency to push Adrien throughout the episode, in a way that makes it seem like she doesn’t like him for who he is, but who she seems to think he should be? This is just my opinion though, and I admit I could be wrong.
It’s just hard because, as I wrote above, I really liked Kagami in Riposte and wanted to see her return, and maybe even get together with Adrien for a while or, even more ideally, get a crush on Chat Noir since he hasn’t had anyone have a crush on him yet.
On a side note, according to the episodes’ production code, Frozer takes place before Sandboy, and I think it’s nice that after hearing Adrien say he might have feelings for Kagami, Marinette’s biggest fear is still Adrien having feelings for Chloe, meaning that she would be alright with Adrien getting together with Kagami (heartbroken, yes, but she wouldn’t see it as the end of the world). I guess I’m just not personally okay with that.
On a related note, Chat Noir was also acting really pissy in this episode. I praised him in Glaciator for taking Ladybug’s rejection with grace and maturity, but then he started acting like a total brat, and that was even after he thought about maybe going for Kagami instead
Overall, Frozer was an okay episode, but it just had a lot of things I really didn’t like; mostly when it came to Kagami’s and Chat Noir’s characterization
I do agree, she’s aware of Gabriel’s motives and there is a significant amount of evidence to support the theory. However, I don’t believe she’ll willingly fall into step and serve Hawkmoth. Before I go into further detail, let’s examine what we know so far about the future peacock holder and how Nathalie fulfills the profile.
It may seem like we know very little—but there’s more than meets the eye if we consider the circumstances. Based on appearances and presentation, it’s reasonable to assume Le Paon (now known as Mayura) identifies as a traditionally feminine person. There is a notable difference between her transformed appearance and that of other miraculous users. Although there have been instances of changing hairstyle and color (i.e. Rena, Chat), we’ve never seen such stark transformations in other features like skin, eyes, perhaps eye shape. This is why we cannot rely on appearances alone to deduce her civilian identity.
But what else do we know about her? Truthfully, very little. So the real question isn’t “Who is Mayura?”, but “How did Mayura come to be?”.
Let’s summarize the necessary factors;
– Mayura should have a basic understanding of the miraculous jewels. – Mayura must know Gabriel Agreste possesses one or more miraculous. – Mayura needs to obtain the peacock miraculous from Gabriel Agreste. – Mayura needs to have access to the Agreste household. – Mayura needs the code to Gabriel’s safe. – Mayura will work with Hawkmoth and knows Gabriel is affiliated with the miraculous, therefore she’s probably aware of his secret identity.
This significantly shrinks the pool of candidates and turns us back to Nathalie. She has fullaccess to the Agreste mansion—and her being familiar with Gabriel’s things/schedule wouldn’t be out of place. She is probably the only individual that actually knows he wields a miraculous. She has also physically seen the grimoire and the contents of Gabriel’s safe, so it’s reasonable to conclude she has an understanding of the peackock miraculous.
There are a number of other clues that allude to Nathalie being Mayura. Many characters of the show share color schemes with their miraculous/kwami.
Evidentally the blues, deep reds, and dark hues of Nathalie’s color palette match Duusuu.
This carries over into her future akumatized form as well. Catalyst and Mayura share striking number of features as well. The build and change in skin tone are almost identical. Various characteristics of Mayura’s outfit, such as the high neck collar and long sleeves, match Nathalie’s civilian appearance.
The creators also like to play around with names. Many have deeper meanings and relate to a part of a character’s identity.
– Dupain-Cheng:du pain, french for “of bread”, cheng, chinese for “to make” – Bourgeois: reference to wealth and the “bourgeoisie”, a.k.a. the upperclass. – Agreste: the french word for the grayling butterfly. – Césaire: reference to Aimé Césaire, a french author and poet from Martinique. – Marc Anciel: a play on the french word for gay baby boy rainbow, arc-en-ciel.
Nathalie’s last name “Sancœur” translates to “heartless” or “without a heart” in french (sans cœur). There could be a few explanations for this; it could be a reference to the fact she’s complicit in Gabriel’s manipulation, schemes, and toxic parenting. She’s a silent bystander (though there is the possibility she’s being blackmailed/coerced into it). However—I think there’s more to it. However, heartless is such a heavy word and as of yet we haven’t seen much of her at all.
One last thing to consider is the episode placement. Rarely are there more than one akuma per episode, it simply wouldn’t make sense for Nathalie to be akumatized for only half the season finale and disapear afterwards. They’re going to build up to Mayura throughout both parts.
What can I say? The shoe fits.
I personally don’t think so. While it’s hard to see on the artwork for Catalyst (because it’s 2D) Natalie’s jawline is completely different to Mayura, as are the eyes.
Also, while having an abnormal skin color is normal for Akumatized victims (Bubbler, Evillustrator, The Mime, Princess Fragrance, Simon Says, Kung Food, Gamer, Puppeteer, Santa Claws, The Collector, Befana, Troublemaker, Frightningale, etc), the same doesn’t go for Miraculous Holders.
In fact, aside from Mayura, the only Miraculous Holder who has an abnormal skintone is Mudekudeku, and that’s because as part of her transformation, her skin is covered in something similar to otjize
paste, which is part of her culture; as was confirmed by Plagg in Frightningale, the look of a transformed Miraculous Holder corresponds to their own personal desires.
Then there’s also the name “Mayura”, which means peacock in various indian languages, meaning that whoever Mayura is, she’s most likely of indian descend, which also fits the change in skin color, since many deities in Hinduism have abnormal skin colors, including one named Krishna, who has blue skin, and is even one of the many Hindu gods who are associated with peacocks. Peacocks are also considered sacred in Hinduism, and are referred to, you guessed it, Mayura.
So it’s pretty likely that Mayura is of indian descend, and I highly doubt Natalie, being white, blue-eyed, and having a completely french name, is that.
Also, Nino is such a ride or die person for his loved ones?
His girlfriend become a zombie? He stays behind with her, effectivelly dooming himself for her.
His best friend is not allowed to have a birthday? Turns into a supervillain and decides to fight every parent ever.
His girlfriend is kidnapped by a giant super-buff spider monster lesbian? Will fucking throw hands with her and beat her off with a stick untill she frees her.
His former crush and dear friend really wants to raw date his best friend but she can’t cause he’s never allowed to leave the house? He will fucking bring her on his date with Alya and have her be in a video call with him for the entire thing, who cares about third or fourth wheels?
(AND will also give her a sick mix tape for her birthday)
A few things I noticed in the Style Queen trailer – SPOILER ALERT
Nathalie is in front of a nervous looking Marinette. So I’m wondering if Gabriel or Nathalie is sticking up for Marinette and her hat design while Audrey complains about it. (Also Audrey’s jumpsuit design is slightly off).
We can clearly see Chloe in this photo as the ONLY OTHER PERSON AROUND. Adrien is a golden statue and Ladybug is struggling alone
This photo shows Ladybug giving the bee miraculous to someone in the vicinity. It can only be Chloe.
I think Chloe told her mother about how Marinette beat her in the design contest (because Chloe plagerized Marinette’s design and Marinette was able to prove it), so Audrey heavily criticizes it, making Marinette nervous, but Natalie jumps to her defense.
