Weeell depends on the person and how much they like them selfs, while usually the animals prefer to stay with the person they’ve always been with but if a human and their counterpart stay close they start to synchronize a bit.
At one point the human may take traits and abilities from the animal, In extreme cases the person affected could become hybridized. This however is dangerous as it causes a huge amount of stress, both mentally and physically, on the individual.
Y’know how Rhys is usually like a huge jack fanboy in fic and has a room full of jack stuff? Imagine Rhys dating someone else (maybe even bonded) and Jack catches wind of how big of a little fanboy he is and decides to take Rhys from the other person just because he can. Cause Rhys is so weak for him and now he’s a loyal little prize
i feel like this probably ends up with jack sending sexy, signed glossy prints of himself to rhys, ostensibly to add to his “collection”
but also for seduction because he’s a bastard
His seduction: gets Rhys lots of personal merch including like shirtless erotic ones. Sends Rhys lots of gifts in general and makes Rhys his PA so he’s always with him. Oh rhysie I have an appointment on Aquator and we have to share this room oh noooo B)

It’s a soul mate au but somewhere between your 11-16 birthday an animal that represents your soul mate will appear and be your pet/companion that will lead you to your soul mate (…eventually) they will have the personality of that person but only at the point of when you meet them not before.
Rhys gets a huge banana boa who he named Cupcake, while Jack gets a mink called Noodle (actually it was Atlas but Jack forgot)
Both are bitter business rivals till Jack has his men kidnap Cupcake, note that Jack has never seen the snake fully, you cant kill the animal but you can still cause it harm in which the one its represents also feels that pain.
So its an awkward situation when when the Hyperion CEO starts to feel he’s being tortured by himself or his men….
